IRM-tool is an innovation project that bridges creative knowledge with the maritime industry’s innovation needs. The purpose of the project is to boost creative job opportunities in maritime industry by enabling encounters between the creative fields and maritime industry. The project is implemented during 29.5.2017-31.10.2019.
The project develops a concept or a tool that helps to utilize innovation theories in concrete problem solving situations. A web-based tool is created to help companies develop their innovation knowledge and processes. The tool is developed from maritime industry perspective through case studies and innovation theory, utilizing service design, media expertise, and other creative knowledge. Workshops test the creative knowledge, methods and their application in concrete maritime industry's challenges, and thus provide information for the usability of the tool. Maritime Industry provides real life challenges, and creative knowledge, e.g. service design, acting, drawing, game developing etc. is utilized to combine the theory and practice. Service design and media professionals are used to develop practical and interesting content for the tool.
Salcomp moved the Lohja facility to new location and asked me to ideate the new sings. Sings were manufactured by Lähimainos
Restaurant Epitihia needed to market their wake services. They asked me to design some kind of flyer, that they could give to people and deliver to local funeral homes.
Alanteen Tila is one of the largest berryfarms in Finland and is located in Paimio, near Turku. They produce strawberries, rasperries, blueberrie and so on. They also refine the berries into jams, juices and even sparkly drinks! I re-designed their packaging.
User interface for touch screen was created in co-operation with sub-contractor (that provided the coding). UI itself is operatable in three languages: english, chinese and portuguese. The design of the UI was created so, that the main functions can be operated based on icons and visual guidance. UI was also designed to be easily customized to any kind of branding the customer might have (as was the entire design of the machine).
“At Salcomp we gave Valtteri a freedom to design and productize our OFI-robot and it´s UI without limitations. And what we got, was a machine which makes great first impressions. We also gained extremely good rigidity to machines new door and shield parts. Amazing, what can be gained by design when it´s conducted by a pro!”Pekka NummenpääSalcomp
Restaurant Epitiha needed improvement to their room acoustic conditions. During the minor restauration of the whole dining area they wanted to address this problem also. I was asked to "Do something about it". So I introduced them a possibility to hide the acoustical elements with digitally printed large format canvas, which could be changed periodically by the change of the seasons, or at customers wish to have their picture on the wall at wedding or wake for example. They liked the idea, so we did it.
Salcomp developed a new generation of Odd Form Insertion machines. I created a design concept, then based on that, Industrial Design, Usability, User Experience, User Interfaces for the haptic and digital UI´s. I worked as a designer in multifaceted team of professionals with long experience from automation. My responsibility was the Productization, Design, Sub Contractor Management, Supply Chain Management and Quality control of outer parts and shields.

My Degree programme in Leadership and Service Design Master´s Thesis work for Marinecycles was a concept of a digitalized ship procurement service and it´s user experience. Business Design, Service Design, Conceptual Design, lots of data visualization, etc.
”We at MarineCycles had an idea of digitalized service with connections to current offering. With Valtteri’s guidance it was taken thru service design process, which surfaced the missing key factors and gave reasoning to drop irrelevant needs away. By Valtteri this service concept got it’s frame work, he validated it together with end-users and created foundation for service testing and piloting. We are super happy with the outcome”
Alanteen Tila is one of the largest berryfarms in Finland and is located in Paimio, near Turku. They produce strawberries, rasperries, blueberrie and so on. They also refine the berries into jams, juices and even sparkly drinks! Another business for them is also to offer accommodation services for tourists and travelers in their cabins. They asked me to re-draw their old logo, that caused them difficulties because it was not working well with different printing techniques. The old logo seemed to be attached with lots of emotional ties, but I was brave enough to suggest them a completely new, modified, version of it. It took some time for them to approve it, but eventually they liked it and adopted it in use. After that the signs for the farm and all the advertising in vehicles and their berry kiosks were renewed.
